1993 to Present
I have begun more complicated woodcutting techniques by adding additional plates that are carved from generic hardware store punches and awls. This addition has added a new dimension and more texture to each print when used in combination with the White Line printmaking technique. With each print pulled from the same plates, the color scheme is different, making each work a monoprint. The combination of both printing plates show off the variety of carving, printing, and artistic ingenuity. These prints show off the monotype brushwork, the grain of the different woods, and the unique imagery developed by the artist.
In this print, "The Cryptogram" is based on a combination of mixed images that are arranged together to be deciphered by the viewer. The underlying image of circles and dots resemble an additional layer of Matrix like code that floods each image in a unique way and adds to the complicated process in how to decipher the final image. "The Cryptogram" is a return to more surreal images that once dominated the artists work in the 1990's and early 2000's. This return has sparked a new way of engaging the viewers interest.
